Origin Story
Cathayr Swordsong's story began in a world where legends and myths were often woven into the very fabric of reality. He was born into the House of Swordsong, a noble lineage that had produced some of the most legendary swordmasters in the history of the land. For generations, the Swordsongs had honed their skill in the art of the blade and body. The singing blades of Swordsong earned a reputation that struck fear into the hearts of their enemies and admiration from their allies.
The legacy of the Swordsong family is all that remains of the once proud House, the secret techniques and traditions of the Swordsong family had been passed down through the ages, guarded with utmost care, and known only to the heirs of the house, and so it continues to be.
Cathayr was born to Alaric and Seraphina Swordsong. From his earliest days, he was immersed in the learnings of the sword. His father was a stern yet loving mentor, teaching him the sacred ways of the blade. Under Alaric's guidance, Cathayr learned not only the physical aspects of swordsmanship and combat but also the principles of courage, loyalty, and honor. These teachings, passed from one generation to the next, instilled in Cathayr a deep sense of duty and responsibility.
However, tragedy struck when Cathayr was just a boy. In the dead of night, a group of demons and assassins sent by the ancient enemies of the House of Swordsong found their location at last and attacked. Alaric cut down many, but a single blade could not hold such numbers, especially when trying to protect his wife and son, eventually Alaric would fall, and so did the parents decide to buy time for their son to escape in exchange for their lives. As the boy ran he could hear the clang of swords behind him and the cries of his mother to continue running, to not look back, but the boy had been tempered by his father's teachings, and so he found steel deep within his hardened heart and looked back, burning the scene of his parents' murder to memory, so he could remember what was to drive his life's purpose from then on, so he could reignite the flames of hate whenever duty called.
Orphaned and left with nothing but the family's ancient sword, a masterpiece forged by a master in ages past, Cathayr was thrust into a world of turmoil and uncertainty. The once-proud House of Swordsong was no more, its memory all but forgotten, its honor tainted. The young boy, now the sole living member of his noble lineage, vowed to restore the family name and avenge his parents' deaths.
Cathayr embarked on a journey of self-discovery and survival. He honed his skills in seclusion, practicing the arts of swordplay and mastering the secret techniques of the sword's song his father had entrusted to him. The years passed and the boy was made into a man, for the world never spares a boy his innocence for long. His father had once told him his talent for the sword was unprecedented since the founding of the House, and so did Cathayr improve his skills tremendously, reaching the pinnacle of the arts of the sword's song in less than a decade. His journey led him to grief, loneliness and heartbreak, but he also found glimmers of happiness and glee, he found reasons to smile and laugh again, things he couldn't have imagined years past. In time he knew his heart would heal, if only a little, and so it did, so did the burning flames of hate become naught more than embers until, eventually, he snuffed them out. He would never forget, but his purpose was now driven by cold responsibility and not maddening flames, he would never lose himself to hate and rage but he would do what duty demanded of him, no matter what. Cathayr's travels were plagued by strife, as the land was hostile, especially so against those who wandered alone. His path was arduous indeed, fraught with peril come from men and gods both, he found himself enwebbed in the weaves of their scheming more than once, for better or worse. Cathayr enjoyed the company of both mortal and divine, though his love was eternally vowed to his beloved goddess, who had found him in the hardest of times, when all seemed lost and his path barren of hope, she would restore it with honesty and love, when the flames threatened to consume, him she would assuage them with tenderness and courage both. He found few friends, but those he did find remained so forevermore.
Now his steps have led him to the lands of Bicolline, where the last traces of his family's ancient records have pointed him to in his quest for retribution.
