Origin Story

Long before mortals carved kingdoms or beasts roamed in herds, there was only the great dissonance; a churning of clashing wills between gods, monsters, and unborn men. It was said that the very sky wept with sound, rivers thrummed with unending chords, and silence itself had not yet been discovered. In that era, creation was raw and fractured, and no harmony bound the living to one another.

From this discord, three emissaries sought resolution:

  1. The First God, bearer of law, who demanded order.
  2. The Great Beast, crowned in fur and fang, who demanded survival.
  3. The Forgotten Singer, a mortal soul lost between worlds, who demanded that sorrow be heard.

Together they struck a bargain, each surrendering a piece of their essence. From divine will came armor and blade, forged to defend the innocent. From the beast came feathers and form, so the protector might walk among all creatures. From the singer came song and sorrow, the power to heal what violence could not. Thus, the Angel of Mercy was born. Not a child of heaven nor earth, but a covenant made flesh.

The Angel of Mercy has no temple, no altar, and no priesthood. Their worship is found in whispered prayers on battlefields, in lullabies sung by restless children, in the hush that follows sudden vengeance.

Are they eternal? Or does each act of sacrifice bring them closer to an end? None can say.

Only this is known: "when despair settles deepest, when the cries of wounded beast or child echo unanswered, the air begins to hum with a hidden melody… and the white feathers, like snow, fall from the sky."

But... among men, "Mercy" walks the earth as an unknown bard, who brings song and story of the old world, so that those memories are told and never forgotten.
