Origin Story
Hal Cyon came from simple beginnings. He grew up in a small coastal village in the land of Kalindia. Like many young souls who grew up listening to the wondrous tales told by fisherfolk and traders passing thru, Hal dreamed of leaving his peaceful village to experience his own tales of wonder and adventure. His chance arrived when word of a growing resistance against the Vampire King Malik and the Dragon Mage Az'Caine came to his village. Eagerly, Hal joined and, thanks to his light hearted demeanor and kind nature, quickly gained acceptance and admiration amongst his fellow resistance fighters; including two ex-foot soldiers of the Dragon Mage by the names of Artie and Garridan, who shared tales of travelling to another world free from the tyranny of their own. It was also during his time in the resistance that he earned the moniker "The Kingfisher". A homage to the bird that would nest on the shores of his coastal village, said to have the power to calm the winds and waves. For Hal's talents did not derive from skill with sword or bow, but by his knack for staying calm in the storm of battle and his innate ability to spread that calmness to the hearts of his fighting brothers and sisters by his side. On the battlefield, his calm presence steadied nerves and inspired confidence. Off the battlefield, it emanated a sense of peace and tranquility for the dying, and healing for the grieving and disheartened. As the battles continued, the call for the Kingfisher became a staple on the lips of those in need of reassurance and support.
But the weight of this role began to take a toll on Hal, and while he bore few physical scars, he became burdened by the invisible scars carried on his heart. For, while outwardly he appeared to emanate calmness, within a terrible storm of pain and suffering had begun to brew. This continued until one fateful day, when the call for the Kingfisher echoed across the battlefield, Hal Cyon the Kingfisher was nowhere to be found. Unable to stand the sight of another fallen friend, Hal had turned his back on the resistance and ran, leaving the resistance and his allies behind never to look back.
Haunted by his past and conflicted by his identity as the Kingfisher, Hal went into isolation for several years in search for his own inner peace. It was only by a chance meeting at a tavern with his old friend Artie, that Hal decided to end his self-imposed exile. Convinced by the chance to start a new, and restore meaning to the name Kingfisher, Hal has joined the Covenant of The Black Rose to fight alongside at the Battle of Bicolline.
