Origin Story
Anaruz Ayyur Naravas na Xamida, known to most by his free name of Anaruz, is a member of one of the numerous clans, tribes, and peoples in the Ourgadun known to themselves as Akir. Like many of the tribal, clannish folk of the Southlands, Anaruz and his people are descended from doughty and bellicose ancestral heroes who fought to escape bondage and domination by the Cities of Sand. Anaruz, like many of the superstious and spiritually inclined Akir, clung tightly to the tribal faith of his people, worshipping the variation on Southland Gods known to the Akir. Though only an acolyte to the warrior-monks of his Clan, Anaruz remained eternally dedicated to his militant-spirituality. In this position he had the opportunity to practice many of the traditions of the desert warrior-monk tradition, though an unitiated brother such as himself remains intentionally blinded to the greater depths of religious knowledge. Instead, Anaruz would serve as servant, aide-de-camp, monastery acolyte, and man-at-arms to his tribal chief and the monks he one day hoped to join. Now only just passing the cusp of true adulthood at thirty years old, Anaruz could sense those last steps to fully joining the monastic path nearing. At this stage, works overtook faith and efforts among others beyond simply serving his liege and masters were required to prove his devotion. Due to the inherent shortages present among the resource-poor Ourgadun, Anaruz followed in the footsteps of so many of his tribal kin and was compelled to leave his homeland on equal parts pilgrimage and armed adventure, motivated by intentions both faithful and mercenary. Taking with him little more than the equipment of a warrior-acolyte and what other supplies he could carry, Anaruz set off into the deserts for the cities outside the Ourgadun and even farther afield. His cause, simply, requires Anaruz to gain wealth, renown, and honor as a warrior while simultaneously learning of himself in the eyes of God, furthering the depth of his faith and humbling himself before Creation in the face of the temptations brought on by a mercenary lifestyle.
