Origin Story
Magpie had a human name. Once. A human family too. On the day of her Naming Ceremony, the day she would be granted her Formal Name from the scrying of the local wise woman and be eligible to become Heir to her family's mercantile business something... happened. A never before seen aura appeared around her, both black and white simultaneously. She was accused of being a Changeling, the two-color aura a fell omen, and as her community turned against her, the light and shadow of her aura blinded her and she lost all senses, coming back to herself miles from the only home she had ever known, with no idea how she had come to be there. As time went by she came in contact with another traveller who always seemed to just "turn up" wherever she was and especially whenever she was in trouble. Unbeknownst to her, he was a sellsword (or man-at-arms) hired by her human family to keep her safe on her journeys, a last, loving gesture from a people who could not keep her amongst them. "Well my little magpie," he said after rescuing her from an ill-advised foray into a forgotten mausoleum after yet another little bit of knowledge that had caught her fancy. "Have you learned your lesson yet?" She blinked eyes at him that had been lost in preocupation contemplating the trap she had accidentally triggered only moments before. "Magpie?" she asked. "Magpie. Maaaagpiiiiiie," she tried the word out and nodded after a moment. "Yes, I suppose Magpie will do," she said, beaming up at him. In the end, despite herself, she managed to charm him and in short order they wed, after the human fashion she had been familiar with, hand over hand bound. Now she looks forward to learning even more things to add to her "magpie collection". She gathers secrets, to keep, to protect, to heal. Coming to the Duche du Bicolline is an effort to find a place to call home and to be free for both herself and her husband/mate. A place to finally set down roots, a den, a base from which she can launch her pursuit of knowledge and other "shiny" things, both literal and metaphorical.
From the Court of Time's QOTD (What are your character's interests/talents/hobbies?): My interests include researching, rediscovering lost or near-forgotten tales, weaving stories, expressing essences with poetry, collecting secrets to help others, learning. My talents are for seeing into an individual's past (only with permission) and generally while under the influence of a medium (think the Oracles of Delphi) or in another altered mental state (like being awake 24+ hours), protecting secrets, writing poetry, memory calling (also only with permission) though there's no telling what I will draw forth. My hobbies include brewing mead, keeping my mate/husband from getting grouchy enough to eat the sun and moon (or is that a talent?), sleeping, reading, learning, playing with the pups. *Coughs and looks entirely sheepish.* My mate reminded me I also have a penchant for losing track of my surroundings when I'm in pursuit of knowledge or cataloguing data and have gotten myself into potentially dangerous situations from which he is then required to rescue me, which is, in his words, " a worthwhile pursuit but I didn't expect to be nursemaid to a fully-grown Fae woman when your parents hired me. I should have known the pay was far too good to be anything less than a headache my sweetling." I have not further explored my abilities as a Fae creature. I believe I may be a shapeshifter of some variation, the kitsune and the coyote both call to my heart. My husband/mate is his own creature and it is for him to tell his tale or not.
