Origin Story
Before the stars were nailed to the night sky, and before kings carved borders into the bones of the earth, there lived a quiet squire named Modesto, son of no noble house, born of a village forgotten by time.
He was not known for valor or might, but for humility — a boy who once carried the sword of a drunken knight for seven winters, never once asking for coin, title, or praise. Yet in his silence burned a relentless fire: a hatred for cruelty, and a deep, bone-carved ache for justice.
One fateful evening, his village was raided by warlords under a banner of false gods. Children were taken. The weak trampled. The righteous burned.
Modesto stood alone, unarmed, between the invaders and the temple where the last villagers cowered. He raised no weapon — only his voice:
"You may crush my bones and drown my name in blood, but I will rise again, not as a man… but as judgment."
The sky answered.
A column of golden fire split the clouds. From it descended a blinding force — wings of flame, voice of thunder — and the heavens themselves whispered:
"This soul shall rise."
He was consumed in that divine blaze, but not destroyed. Reforged.
Modesto was no more. He became Modestiel — Knight of the Light, Oathbearer of the Flame, sworn not to kings or crowns, but to the forgotten, the oppressed, and the broken.
His blade, Virelion, was forged from a sliver of dawn itself. His shield bore no sigil, only the etching of his vow:
“Justice, not judgment. Mercy, not pride. Strength, only in service.”
To this day, when tyrants rise, and the innocent cry out into the dark, it is said a knight with burning eyes walks the earth once more.
And where he walks, fire follows.
