Origin Story

Vixen is an ancient spirit of the Harvest, one of the Old Fae whose sacred duty is to maintain the natural cycle of the lands of Mundus. When the Fae began their exodus to the Fae Wylds, Vixen was bound to the earth and could not join them. To escape the dangers that followed, she assumed the form of a fox, hiding in plain sight for many centuries. However, as the Fae disappeared and their glamour magic dwindled, Vixen lost the ability to shift back into her true form. Over time, the long years spent as a beast took their toll, gradually eroding her memories, her name, and her sense of self. All that remained was her unyielding devotion of her duty to the land.

With the return of the New Fae to Mundus, the flow of Fae magic was restored. After centuries, Vixen regained her ability to change forms. She felt an inexplicable pull toward the Court of Mirages, through a deep and mysterious bond with its Fairy Godmother, Runa. Having spent so long in solitude, Vixen eagerly embraced the community and traditions of the Court of Mirages. Immersed in the renewed magic of the Fae, she began to recover fragments of her past, particularly her connection to the ancient and potent magic of the Primal Fae. She has since guided her fellow Fae to rediscover and wield their Primal forms. Vixen’s profound love for the Fae inspired her to channel her bond with the earth and the forces of nature to protect them in times of need. This path has led her to become a High Priestess of Naak’e’tuun, serving and safeguarding the sacred Cycle of Nature and mentoring others who are stewards of the land.

Above all, Vixen is thrilled to have the long-awaited chance to celebrate the magic of friendship once more, with a drink in hand. Recognizing her joyous spirit, the Court honored her with the title of RevelRouser Anchor, a role dedicated to inspiring celebration and fostering camaraderie. As the "Fairy Boozemother," Vixen has embraced this duty with enthusiasm, proudly representing her court in such a joyful way.

Vixen dances between her duties with grace and passion, embodying both the fierce protector of nature and the spirited bringer of joy. She serves as a bridge between the old ways and the new, reminding all who meet her of the enduring power of community, magic, and the earth itself. As she raises her glass to celebrate with her fellow Fae, she knows that her journey has only just begun, and with every step, she reclaims a little more of the ancient magic that lies within her heart. In every laugh shared, every story told, and every moment of revelry, Vixen finds her place once more, not just in the Court of Mirages, but in the endless, vibrant cycle of life itself.

============= Autumn 1024 =============

In the brisk autumn of the year 1024, under a canopy of amber and russet leaves, Vixen knelt before a small simple altar of Naak’e’tuun, the ancient faith of Nature’s blessings. She had been chosen, called forth by the land itself, to join Naak’e’tuun and wield its gifts. The great Dame Liliana Minnow, her friend and newly blessed Cleric, watched as Vixen received her first blessing: the power to cure the blights that had plagued the land, to rid the soil and streams of the curses that had darkened them. Vixen’s heart swelled with hope and responsibility, knowing that with her newfound abilities she held the chance to honor her sworn duty and heal the lands of Mundus.

For years, Dame Liliana had fought tirelessly against Isphet, the lich who cast pestilence and rot over the kingdom’s lands. Isphet had long evaded capture, using forbidden magic to summon sickness from the shadows and lay curse upon curse upon the fertile grounds. Though she was finally defeated, Isphet’s bitter magic lingered, dark tendrils snaking through the soil and air, a reminder of her relentless hatred. Even in her absence, the lich’s presence continued to fester in the hearts of those who had suffered and in the blackened fields where little grew. But Naak’e’tuun had not forsaken the lands of Mundus. Nature had granted Vixen her gifts, a spark of healing that could free the land from the last vestiges of Isphet’s corruption.

Vixen meditated in the secluded grove, the simple altar of sticks and bones was a place of power where she could link her spirit to High Priest Myo Sans-Terre. Though she stood at the distant edge of Taluskan, the sacred connection allowed her to channel her spell through Myo, who awaited her in his own hallowed sanctuary in Terres de Sud. Myo’s presence became her anchor, a steady beacon in the flow of Naak’e’tuun’s magic. Vixen closed her eyes, grounding herself by pressing her fingers into the cool earth and feeling the pulse of life running deep beneath her. She felt her awareness expand, touching the roots that drank deeply from unseen springs, sensing the tiny creatures scurrying through the underbrush, and the silent strength of the ancient stones. Inwardly, she whispered the incantation, a prayer for healing and renewal to purge the lingering corruption. As she began to chant, Myo’s voice joined hers and together their voices called forth the will of Nature. Vixen could feel a warmth rising through her body, a force that seemed both ancient and infinitely vast.

When Vixen cast the final words of her spell, a tremor ran through the grove as the magic took hold. Golden light seeped from Myo’s hands into the ground, spreading like a river of sunlight, reaching beyond the grove to the fields and villages long afflicted by the lich’s lingering curse. As the light expanded, the air grew sweeter, the blighted plants straightened, and a sense of peace returned to the land. It was as though nature itself had sighed in relief, purging the last remnants of darkness that had clung to it. Vixen opened her eyes to see the grove around her blooming in brilliant hues, as if to celebrate the lifting of Isphet’s final curse across the lands.

As she rose, Vixen felt the gentle support of her fellow believers surrounding her, Dame Liliana and Aranel foremost among them. They embraced her, and Vixen realized that while her power was a blessing, it was her faithful friends that had given her the strength to use it. She had come into her own, not through solitary prowess, but through the shared purpose and trust of those who had devoted themselves to Naak’e’tuun’s teachings. In the days that followed, the people of Mundus celebrated the return of their fields, streams, and forests to their natural glory. The land healed, and so did its people, as they returned to the rhythms of life in harmony with the earth. Vixen knew that while her journey had only begun, she would never walk it alone; she carried with her the power of Naak’e’tuun and the spirit of Nature united in faith and resilience.

============= Summer 1024 =============

Vixen walks through the freshly sown field, her staff a sturdy companion in her hand as she makes her way across the fertile expanse, her gaze fixated on a new horizon. She has felt alone, lately, not because she lacked the warmth of community, but because the once clear guiding voice of Hundar had grown distant and faint. Hundar's departure to attend to her offspring in Auquesse has left a void, splitting the Great Hunt and leaving its followers adrift. The Great Hunt had been sundered in two, and left fragmented with bits and pieces of a religion that did not fully resonate with the followers left behind. She was saddened by this realization, but knew there must be a way forward and she would not be deterred from her calling to lead and inspire.

Throughout her journey Vixen thought of her experience in the Great Hunt, and most importantly, the Hunt that she had claimed. She had vowed to build a community of ferocious protectors and to lead the faithful with unwavering dedication and strength. With this thought held deep in her mind, she heard a voice, a message from the Great Mother resonating within her soul.

"Little Fox," the voice said "your Hunt is complete, yet your journey stretches far beyond the horizon. I have seen the honor of your Hunt, and you have led your Pack with valor. I acknowledge your unwavering strength and wish for you to lead your chosen on a new path. The Great Hunt has scattered across the world and I charge you to fulfill a new sacred Hunt: Take my power and wield it to protect and guide those who honor and revere the Wild. Your brethren in Naak'e'tuun are bound to safeguard the cycle of Nature, and your Pack, in turn, must protect them. Your Pack is fierce, and your Hunt is blessed. Protect the Wilds with unwavering resolve."

Reaching the edge of the woods, she gazed into the dense forest thinking about Hundar's edict. This charge aligned with her burgeoning realization that her true purpose lies beyond mending the fractured faith of the Great Hunt. Hundar's challenge is not a farewell but a directive, urging Vixen to channel her leadership towards a new horizon and to unify the communities in a shared destiny.

As dusk approached, Vixen emerged from the woods to the clearing where her Pack was gathered. Approaching them, she raised her hand to deliver a message to all who would listen.

"Hunters, I have journeyed across the land to reflect on my time in the Great Hunt and to find clarity on my way forward. On this journey Hundar has revealed to me that my mission is to carve a new path. My role in the Hunt is not to heal the broken religion of our adversaries, but to lead those who wish to follow me into a new dawn. The eternal cycle of Nature will always guide us, and our sworn duty is to safeguard it. There are others who share this vision and are dedicated to championing Nature's empowerment. We have been gifted an opportunity to shed our skin of the Hundar and emerge as new Hunters to continue our role as protectors of the Wilds alongside our brethren in Naak'e'Tuun. They hear our primal howls and respond in kind. They embrace our predatory instincts and welcome our fury. I hear the call for us to protect not only Nature, but those like us who need protecting. Death is a part of the unbreakable cycle of Nature and in its yielding we are given opportunities to rise anew. I have chosen to join Naak'e'Tunn and aid their efforts, and I invite you all to join me on this path."

She lowers her hands and extends one to Rook saying, "I would be honored to have you at my side as I forge ahead on this new path." Turning her gaze across the clearing, meeting each individualís eyes, she continued, "That goes for all of you. I vow to always guide and protect those who would follow me, and I promise you will always share in the bounty of our Pack. No matter what path you choose, know that you will always have a safe place in my den."

Rook's head tilts to the left side for a moment as if she's listening to something. For a heartbeat or two there's silence before she lightly tugs on the small golden hoop in her ear. "Right then, the winds of change are blustering." She takes Vixen's hand and with her help gets to her feet. Everything she understood about the world had shifted after their quest with Naak'e'tuun. But oh, they were such a joy to hunt alongside. She remembered the Hundar's reluctance to accept the fae those five fateful years ago. How they approached her almost like an artificerís experiment, wondering how a thing that was half beast could even channel their totems. They were kind, but just so different. She thinks of Ronan, her first High Priest who disappeared into nature and the elements themselves. "They are sacred family still, but it is time."

With that, Vixen strikes her staff upon the earth, turning to vanish into the depths of the woods, heeding the ancient call of the Wilds.

============= Summer 1023 =============

Vixen stood up, wiping the sweat from her brow, standing tall between the endless rows of grape vines. The purple fruits were heavy and full and nearly ready for harvest. She plucked one grape between her claws and tasted it, but it was still tough and a little tart. 'A week and a half on the vine and the tannins will develop to make a perfect Merlot.' she thought to herself, 'Perfect!' That would give her time to enjoy the week of festivities and fighting with her friends before the first harvest.

There was a light breeze and she turned her face into it as she felt the sun warm her body. She smiled as her fingers danced through the vineyard, touching each plant. The plants spoke to her, telling her what they needed, what she should do. "It is time for you to heed the call of another." The voice sang to her, echoing through her body. She knew this familiar voice, this song was from the Earth, the Giver of Life, and her tissage. The vines, the soil, they spoke to her and she answered, "Who calls to me?"

"The Great Wolf Mother is searching for you, she calls on you to lead your brethren. To give them strength, courage, and protect them in the Great Battle." The voice spoke to her, singing her song, and she realized it was a song she had known all her life.

"I will go." She said, and placed down her basket of fruit. "How will I find Her?"

"Follow the Howls, follow the Song of the Heart; it is there. You will know what to do."

Vixen stood silent for a moment as she looked over the vineyard that stretched wide in all directions. She closed her eyes, feeling the plants, and the earth, and heard the song, heard the howls, and knew exactly where she needed to go.
