Origin Story
Solvar “Sköllson” Ketilson was born among a Norse warband that valued strength, conquest, and glory earned beneath the edge of the axe. From a young age, he was raised to believe that a warrior’s worth was measured by the battles he survived and the fear his name inspired across distant shores.
Solvar became known for leading attacks at dawn, striking with the rising sun at his back so its light poured into the eyes of his enemies. Warriors began comparing him to Sköll, the wolf of old stories said to chase the sun across the heavens. What began as a half-mocking comparison soon became a title spoken with respect. In time, few remembered where the name began. Only that when dawn broke over a battlefield, Sköllson was rarely far behind it.
Like many of his kin, Solvar took to the sea in search of wealth, renown, and a place worthy of his name. Yet beneath the expectations of his clan, there lingered a restlessness within him. Though fierce in battle and loyal to his people, he never carried the same joy for slaughter as many of the warriors beside him.
That difference became fate during a failed raid against a coastal settlement. The attack turned disastrous, and Solvar’s warband was driven back to their ships. In the chaos of retreat, he was left behind, gravely wounded. Alone and near death, he expected either the cold or the crows to claim him before sunrise.
Instead, he was found by Aylith Luanoch.
Aylith had spent much of her life beneath the care and guidance of her mother, a respected healer who taught her the old rites of healing and the moon-bound traditions of her people. In the aftermath of the battle, Aylith discovered the wounded raider hidden among the dead and dying. Though she knew what he was and what his people had come to do, she chose to preserve his life rather than abandon him to death.
She brought Solvar into secret shelter beneath her mother’s care, where his wounds were tended while the village searched for survivors and counted its dead. What began as wary silence slowly gave way to trust.
In the quiet weeks of recovery, Solvar came to know a life unlike the one he had been raised for. He found compassion where he had expected hatred, warmth where he had known only hardship, and in Aylith, a peace he had never before allowed himself to imagine. In time, that bond became love. But neither of their worlds would permit it.
Among Solvar’s people, a warrior abandoned in battle who survived through the mercy of an enemy carried deep shame. To return wounded, spared, and changed would mark him as unworthy of his clan. And for Aylith, hiding and healing a foreign raider risked condemnation not only upon herself, but upon her mother as well.
As suspicion began to grow and the truth crept closer to discovery, Aylith’s mother understood what would follow if they stayed. Rather than see her daughter condemned or the man she had come to love slain, she urged them to flee before judgment fell upon them all.
Leaving behind the only lives they had ever known, Solvar and Aylith walk where neither blood nor birth would decide who they were allowed to become.
