Conflict. Wars across empires, struggles of power within kingdoms, armies of undead, the realms are strife with conflict; yet what are the common folk to do? La Compagnie Du Bois-Fer started small, like many things do, a local village hunter, a small-scale merchant, a baker, an artist; but as time went on we grew. Folks from all races pushed from their homes by powers far grander than them; Not any grand nobles or great families among our ranks; just people trying to survive.
Through our travels, we learned to live upon the land, finding the woods to be a common respite from battle, a safe haven to retreat into where horses and larger creatures may not chase easily. While within, we still found many troubles, bandits and cut throats being the most common foes, but there was always the biggest enemy of all: hunger.
While many things could be found within the woods, with our growing numbers and constant travel from place to place, relying solely upon the land would not always fair us well. But through our skills, and need for solar, we soon realized that our talents combined; we were not just some pitied group on the road. Some of us picked up the arts, making coin through song or portraits whenever we made it to town; while others honed their skills by taking up the blade or bow and guarding caravans that our party could follow between the kingdoms and cities. Whenever we finished our work or at the end of the day by the cities, we would still always find ourselves among the branches of the trees.
Throughout our journeys, we got to see many a wild creature and beautiful land, but on the road, life was not so one easily lived. By time or by blade, many of our folks were lost from the band. Yet, from conflict, many were found too, most who were kicked out and had nowhere left to go could find respite within our ranks.
Nonetheless we still grew; still survived. Pushed along the road over and over again, past rugged mountains, through deep woods or even by sea; our travels never stopped. And through it all, we learned so much from each other, growing closer and closer past each hardship we endured. Now together in unfamiliar lands for most yet again, we must push on. With our goal to one day find our own place, a land we can call ours. To find a land where all are welcome to join us in song or dance, to trade tales around the fires, to drink our nights away among friends. Until that wonderful day arrives, we will not stop. And once we have it; we’ll never let go. Conflict has taken much from us, our homes, families and friends gone or missing, but it will take no more. While this merry band has learned to love the lands, making songs and art to remember them and keep spirits, (or coin) high; we swear to never fall victim again. If conflict must come knocking upon our homes once more, it will not find the sheep it did last time. No, it will find us waiting, with steel in our eyes, fire in our hearts and iron in our hands. We were once but the scrap and stragglers of war, but our iron has once more been reforged with the strength of the mighty trees. La Compagnie Du Bois-Fer now stands tall and ready like the oaks and may the gods help the poor fools that dare tread into our woods in the dead of night; lest they taste iron.
