Origin Story
The Legacy of the Broken Mirror
My family, the O’Ceallaighs, were traditional wardens of a permanent gallery in Mundus. They believed that iron bars, heavy stone walls, and high-paid mercenaries were enough to keep history safe. I grew up learning the strict, rigid protocols of stationary defense.
That illusion of safety shattered during the Siege of the Red Vanguard. Bandits and corrupt local nobles orchestrated a coordinated assault to pillage my family’s vault. In the chaos, I fought side-by-side with my kin, but was outnumbered. My parents, siblings and children were just within reach as I was pushed into a hidden escape chute, sealing it from the outside to protect me. Through the viewing slit, I watched them stand their ground—and that was the last time I saw them. When I finally dug my way back into the ruins, the vault was stripped bare. My family was entirely missing, leaving behind no bodies, only trails of spilled ink and broken frames.
Resilience in the Ash
For three years, I hunted for clues across the plains and forests of Mundus. I survived alone on pure resilience, sleeping in ditches and learning to track the illicit art black market. I refuse to break or succumb to despair, driven by a burning strength to find my bloodline. My ironclad rule became absolute: unwavering loyalty to family meant I would burn down kingdoms before letting a single relative be forgotten or left behind.
One evening, while tracking a rumor of my family’s stolen artifacts through a rain-slicked forest, I heard it—the ethereal song.
Finding the Veil
The melody bypassed my ears and vibrated directly in my bones. Mesmerized, I walked through dancing veils of color between the trees, entirely losing track of time until I stood inside the shifting stone tomb.
When the great shimmering chest whispered its name into my mind, I didn't just hear a call to protect art; I realized how my biological family had failed. Lavish halls and stone galleries were cages, not shields. True protection required the adaptive, underhanded, and ruthless tactics of the Shifting Veil.
I stepped up to the ornate stone vault, dug my shoulder under the heavy stone, and lifted. In that moment, as the chameleons bled their vibrant colors onto my clothes, the deep void in my chest filled. The Curators became my new found family.
Saoirse’s Oath
Today, I march in the silent processions alongside the massive elephants. My strength is anchored in the guild, and my loyalty to them is absolute. I look at my fellow Curators not just as allies, but as the brothers and sisters who saved me from the ash.
But my past is never far behind. Every time a bandit faction or a greedy kingdom dares to attack our parade, I do not just mourn the sacred elephants—I see the monsters who took my first family. When the stampede is called, I bring my weapons and my wrath to bear. I hunt down the enemy's hidden troves, locking their treasures safely away inside the Veil, and then use our tusks to take retribution. With every piece of art we rescue, I get one step closer to finding the truth about the missing O’Ceallaighs.
My family is alive. I know it. I discovered this truth not through an official record, but through the very art I swear to protect. While cataloging a recovered canvas inside the Shifting Veil, I noticed a hidden signature technique in the underpainting—a secret brushstroke style known only to the O’Ceallaigh clan. They are out there, deep in hiding, operating from the shadows to evade the factions that hunted them. They have adopted my own philosophy: to survive, they had to become ghosts.
Now, my mission holds double the weight. I march with the Curators not just to honor a code, but because the guild’s vast network is the ultimate tool to find them. My unwavering loyalty is split evenly between the bloodline I lost and the found family that gave me the strength to keep breathing. Every parade I guard, every underhanded tactic I employ, and every stampede I lead brings me closer to the day the O’Ceallaighs can finally step out of the shadows.
