After [Emperor Polignac](/wiki/bicolline/people/emperor-polignac/)'s death, a new imperial dynasty emerged with Emperor Gar I who is most known for declaring war on [Irendille](/wiki/bicolline/regions/irendille/) in 640, citing official reasons like "lack of support in the [war against the dark elves](/wiki/bicolline/events/war-between-the-empire-and-nasgaroth/) and poaching on imperial lands." However, historians believe the invasion was primarily driven by greed and a fear of being overshadowed by his predecessor. The people of [Andore](/wiki/bicolline/regions/andore/), having established good relations with the [wood elves](/wiki/bicolline/species/wood-elves/) of Irendile, strongly opposed this declaration, leading to a [general revolt](/wiki/bicolline/events/general-revolt-of-642/) in 642 across the empire, including the provinces of [Ozame](/wiki/bicolline/regions/ozame/), [Arganne](/wiki/bicolline/regions/federation-argannaise/arganne/), and Andore.

Gar I, consumed with suppressing Andorian resistance, almost forgot his conquest of Irendile, but not before committing massacres of the wood elves in the process. The imperial army gained notoriety for mutilating captured [elves](/wiki/bicolline/species/elves/) by cutting off their bow fingers. While Gar I temporarily subdued Andore, the province gained full independence in 712, just 30 years after his death.
