The Cursed Tablets
Long ago, when men lived in clans, even before the knowledge of steel and sorcery, the Dark Lords walked the land freely. One of them had the idea of teaching certain knowledge to humans. The clan chiefs, themselves attracted by power, were delighted with the advantage they had just gained over other men. When the hearts of men were spoiled by greed, the Master moved on to the second stage of his plan; that of stealing the souls of men.

He then offered witchcraft to the clans in exchange for their participation in a great ritual. The Dark Lord told the clan leaders that from now on they would have to follow a code of life that he would give them to engrave on a large tablet and in exchange, he would help them conquer all known lands.

The Master forced the dwarves to engrave the Cursed Tablets and it was in the very blood of the Rune Masters that he “sanctified” the stones during the great ritual. By this gesture, the souls of all the human clans were then his. The people of men then became his people.

This story, transformed many times, is still discussed among the most learned of men. It is said that criminals, chaos believers or other men of ill will come from families who once supported the Master. Some scholars, at the risk of being burned by the Inquisition, say that all men belong to a demon and that when they die, they will roast in the darkness, because their ancestors sold humanity.

Recently, in a small inn near the Mistlands, a band of Andorian mercenaries, under the leadership of Warlord Richard the Proud, got their hands on a mysterious chest. The mining village of Rossel led to the discovery of two ageless dwarf tablets. In order to make some money, Lord Richard opted to sell the Tablets. It was through the world that he sent a missive and he is currently waiting for future buyers.

Does humanity belong to a Demon? Are the gods real or is this just the direct action of a Dark Lord? Should ordinary mortals know the truth?
