Irendille

The realm of the Wood Elves of Irendille, as far back as memory goes, has always been there and remains as mysterious as ever. Very few Wood Elves travel throughout the Empire. The province of Loren in the Andore kingdom is the only known human province where Wood Elves regularly go to exchange and trade.

Political System
The King and Queen of Irendille are the sovereigns of the realm, but political decisions are made by the Grand Council of Irendille. The Grand Council of Irendille is composed of the Istima (elected to a position on the Grand Council), the representative of Taluskan, the Turco (representatives of guilds or clans), and the Nolwë (representatives of cities). For a decision to be made by the Grand Council, a quorum must be met at meetings, and the motion must receive a majority of votes.
The Noa Handa, or Charter of Irendille, is the document to which all decisions must conform and forms the basis of the Irendillan political system.
History
After years of fierce struggles and incessant wars, the Unnamable Ones appeared. They swept through our forests, destroying everything in their path; no force could resist them. All our forests caught fire, and our sanctuaries were destroyed. We had no choice but to flee this uncontrollable malevolent damnation. The continent was nothing but embers and ashes when the high priests of Tolimarth decided to recall the monsters and imprison them in the caves of Mondakasgoroth. They executed Akilam and forged the Ice Sword. But before sinking into the waters, the lands of Ismael opened in their center to reveal gigantic caves teeming with unknown crystals.
The elves who managed to escape the disaster took the precious crystals with them. Arriving on the coasts, the shipwrecked quickly plunged into the depths of the forests, taking care not to leave any trace. Shortly afterward, the survivors regrouped and reformed a council in the heart of the forest. Among the survivors was a prince, from the direct lineage of King Irendil; he was proclaimed king in his turn, and the new kingdom was baptized Irendille.
This new king ordered the melting of the crystals of Ismael. Seven stones were created, which activated magical energy when placed in the seven precise locations where the telluric currents converge. These places became the seats of the young elven cities, and the new kingdom took shape in this preserved balance. The seven stones, called Ilma, Starlight, transmit to the elves the vision of spirits incarnated in the animal, vegetable, and mineral realms. This explains the instantaneous communication of any intrusion into the radiation perimeters of the stones, which thus constitute the true borders defended by the Elves of Irendille.
In 339, Queen Esaelle died of an unknown illness. She was brought back to life thanks to the Staff of Yresse, created from the sacrifice of the dean of the forest, the great red oak Yresse.
A peaceful people by nature, the Wood Elves have only been plunged into war once in their history, in the year 640 when Emperor Gar I declared war on Irendille. This was the Great Rebellion of 640; the men of the south allied with Irendille, and in a fit of rage, the emperor preferred to march his armies against the rebel provinces and forget the Wood Elves.

Established in Irendille territory since the year 914 of the first era, the black fortress is the subject of incessant wars between the people of Irendille and the dark elves of Nasgaroth.
Several times a year, murderous expeditions led jointly by dark elves and mountain orcs bloody the northwest of the kingdom of Irendille. The hatred that the Mountain Orcs and Dark Elves have for the Forest People is ancient. In 914 of the first era the dark elves completed the construction of a fortress on the coasts of the kingdom of Irendille, without the knowledge of the wood elves. This advanced post allowed the kingdom of Nasgaroth to establish itself firmly in Irendille to orchestrate its murderous raids. Most of these are carried out by brutal mercenaries recruited from the mountain orcs. Partially destroyed in 954 of the first era during the Battle of the Bud, burned in 967 of the first era, taken numerous times and recaptured as many times, this fortress of death is still a thorn in the kingdom of Irendille today. .
Irendille campaign of 1001
The autumn 1001 expedition was led by Count Ashtar of House Osgoroth, supported by the two orc clan leaders, Waash and Pok Amargath. After terrible clashes around Ent Hill, which saw hundreds of elves, orcs and Rangers lose their lives, the Wood Elves pushed the forces of Nasgaroth back to the gates of the fort. The ruin is still under the control of the dark elves. But the wood elves led by Laenneck, of the Wolf clan, and helped by Esteban's foresters surround the dark elves and their orc allies entrenched in the ruin.

Irendille campaign of 1002
The Ilta-Machtas struck from the start of hostilities in the heart of the Black Fortress with the determination of a wolf and the agility of an eagle. Laenneck knew that the black banner would no longer fly in the land of Irendille at sunset. The ancients had prepared them to fight without ever letting their being be soiled with the feeling of hatred. The Ilta-Machtas have learned to see in their enemies the path to wisdom, because it is they who allow them to test their bravery, their perseverance and their capacity for decision. And above all, they are the ones who force them to fight for their dreams.

The Awakening of Arta Morna
The Taluskan trackers are categorical: A large grouping of orc, Beastman and Dark Elf clans is underway on the outskirts of the ancient black fortress. A sign of a new alliance between these warlike races, a group of foresters from Irendille recently fell into a deadly ambush on the borders of the elven kingdom and the Empire.
Word of this incident spread quickly among the Imperial border towns. In fact, the Empire is concerned about this alliance and fears that this is only the beginning of future incursions on its territory. The ancient black fortress of Arta Morna would indeed be the ideal base for gathering and preparing attacks on the imperial border villages, which are very isolated in this sector.
Relations being what they are between the Kingdom of Irendille and the Empire, the Imperial Council has decided to organize an expedition to the former Imperial fortress to get to the bottom of it and find out exactly what is happening there. , and if there is a threat, to eradicate it immediately. This mission is being prepared and will take place with or without the agreement of the Borderers of Irendille.
The men chosen to compose the battalion which will be sent to elven territory are for the most part distinguished soldiers and veterans. They will form the “Black Griffin” battalion and will be equipped with brand new gunpowder weapons developed by the Empire. With this unprecedented “firepower”, they hope to be prepared for all eventualities when faced with an enemy about whom they know little. In fact, the wildest rumors surround this new breed. The “Houmbawas”, Beastmen, appeared last year in several places in our world. The existing testimonies are all similar: They appeared in regions where a very strong blue glow was seen during many nights.
The shamans of the orc tribes saw this as the long-awaited warning sign from the start; that of the decline of human rule and the beginning of a new era for the orc and goblin tribes. Perceived as those sent in response to the ceremonies of their shamans, the “Houmbawas” enjoy the status of quasi-demigods among the goblinoid populations and they use it cheerfully, having found in these tribes the armies that they did not have. not here yet.

Irendille is known as the kingdom of the wood elves and its origins are shrouded in mystery. While information is not often shared with human scholars, recent globalization has made information easier to obtain.
Today, elves and half elves can be found all over Mundus. Additionally, humans, dwarves and fae have made new homes in Irendile. But for most of known history, Irendile was the place for elves only, and there are many who would prefer it to return that way.

Relations with Humans:
Some of the first known contact between humans and elves was in the Andorian province of Loren, where they met to trade.
The first hints of conflict came when Emperor Gar I declared war on the peaceful region. Outraged that the emperor would ask them to fight, Loren and the rest of the southern imperial provinces rebelled, starting the nation of Andore. The rebellion occupied the empire so heavily that Irendile was able to escape destruction. The elves would repay this gesture when almost 400 years later they would fight along side the men of Andore against forces of chaos from Auquesse.
While traditionally Irendile has endeavored to keep non elves out, the province of Taluskan in the north is home to many humans and half elves. Bordered by the imperial land of Kintzheim and the Bryas Sea, this province became a refuge for humans fleeing Emperor Gar I.
Generation to generation these humans learned to live like the elves with the greatest respect for the forest. The humans who live in Taluskan are the product of centuries of living in harmony with elves and the forest. Therefore the average human tourist cannot expect to be welcomed just because other humans are there.
Problems
Kept relatively safe from human conflict, irendile has been plagued by supernatural problems. One example is the Nameless Ones who swept through the forests, destroying everything in their path. forests caught fire and sanctuaries were destroyed. The continent was nothing but embers and ashes when the high priests of Tolimarth decided to recall the monsters and lock them in the caves of Mondakasgoroth. They executed Akilam and forged the ice sword. But before sinking into the waters, the lands of Ishmael opened in their center to reveal gigantic caves full of unknown crystals.
The elves who were able to escape the disaster took the precious crystals with them. Arriving on the coast, the castaways quickly plunged into the depths of the forests, taking care not to leave any trace. Shortly after, the survivors met again and formed a council in the heart of the forest. Among the survivors was a prince, of the direct lineage of King Irendil, he was proclaimed king in turn and the new Kingdom was named Irendille.
This new king gave the order to melt the crystals of Ishmael. Seven stones were made which activated with magical energy once placed in the seven precise places where the telluric currents joined. These places became the seats of young elven cities and the new kingdom took shape in this preserved balance. The seven stones called Ilma, starlight, transmit to the elves the sight of the spirits incarnated in the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms. Which explains the instantaneous communication of any intrusion into the radiation perimeters of the stones which therefore constitute the real borders defended by the Elves of Irendille.
Volcanic region on the Côte d'Or, this city was founded to develop cast iron workshops and metal forges which are used to transform objects of art and war. The natural fire coming from the volcanoes prevents them from burning wood to fuel the forges. The fourth Ilma was entrusted to the master of fire, who founded the clan of fire artisans.

The Caverns of the Bog
This place is full of sapphires, it is located in the west of the elf kingdom. The mountains of Irendille, visible from the Empire and the Land of Kafe, shelter this treasure which has never been exploited. Elves have always used these stones for medicinal purposes.
Lauralin: This part of the forest is the darkest and wildest part of Irendille. All plant and animal species are present there in total chaos. Tall, towering trees form an almost flawless canopy covering a sea of vines and ground covers.
The heart of this region is in the valley of Laurelïn, in the center of which stands a gigantic thousand-year-old oak tree overlooking the forest and allowing the elves to watch over their country. This region provides a place of travel for all elves who feel the need to get away from the great elven cities and return to the confines of nature.
The elves residing in this country have an affinity with lynxes, which sit in the branches of the tall trees of the forest.
Located east of the center of the kingdom of Irendille, this city is famous for its trees, the tylïas. In fact, all the arrows of the kingdom come from this city where the elves have always made their arrows from pressed fiber collected from the bark of its trees and finished with hawk feathers, collected from the nests perched on the cliffs. surrounding the city.
It was the hawk clan that received the fifth Ilma. The eyes of elves and hawks become one thanks to this stone. This magical defense allows artisans to develop the entire kingdom's reserve of projectiles and build its reputation.

Oron, "The Hill," is located to the East of the center of the kingdom of Irendille. The elves placed the Ilma at the precise location where energetic fluids emanated at the entrance of a cave inhabited by bears. Close to the borders, these elves are fierce and are often tested to repel the intrusion of sanctuary desecrators. Frequently in contact with humans, they sometimes exchange thoughts and some works of art circulating in the world, up to the outskirts of Loren. Oron is said to house all the traveling elves who roam the world, and these journeys are reflected in the architecture of the homes, both exotic and eclectic.

Spring Awakening 1004
The time is now serious for the inhabitants of the city of Oron. Everyone knew that the night of Ka-Ba-Oloth was coming, but no one thought they would one day face its serious repercussions.
The border residents of Irendille fought long and bravely. Nevertheless, Lolth's proteges fulfilled their dark designs. In the heart of this opaque night, Oron's Ilma exploded under the pressure of the magic of the priestess mages of Nasgaroth, bringing with it its magical protection.
The wave of destruction was felt by all the great mages of this world. When the sun finally rose on Oron, there was no trace of its besiegers. Messengers then left from all over the Kingdom of Irendille to announce the imminent arrival of reinforcements. Ilma was destroyed, but the city and its occupants were not about to be taken without delivering a fierce battle.
Already, rumors say that negotiations are underway to form a convoy that would depart for the Isle of the Heirs with the mandate to bring back a new Ilma. This mission was successfully accomplished. Diving into the ruins of Silmaëlle, explorers found an Ilma and brought it back to the heart of the City, but not without sacrifices.
October 1005
The destruction of Ilma Oron, which occurred during the Night of Ka-Ba-Oloth, had long been planned by Uskuada and the dark elves. The continuation of their invasion plan of the Central Lands depended on its success or failure.
The protective radius of the City of Oron covered one of the major telluric points necessary for the activation of the portal to Gardar-Hos. Annihilating the magical protection of the City was therefore an indispensable step before reaching the designated place.
The activation ceremony of the portal had to take place from this precise location, and it was not without difficulties because the entire kingdom of Irendille and well-intentioned people intended to mobilize to thwart it.
The region of Oron is very wild, covered with dense forest and crossed by numerous rivers. Fighting in this environment is not easy, especially against the border residents of Irendille who grew up there. The forces of Chaos know this and have prepared for it. Their army is supported by many forest trolls and green-skinned creatures.

The destruction of the Ilma of Oron, which occurred during the night of Ka-Ba-Oloth, had been planned for a long time by Uksuada and the dark elves. The continuation of his plan to invade the Middle Lands depended on whether it succeeded or not.
The protection radius of the City of Oron covered one of the major telluric points necessary for activating the portal. Destroying the magical protection of the City was therefore an essential step before going to the location.
The portal activation ceremony must be carried out from this precise location and this will not be done without difficulties, because the entire kingdom of Irendille and men of good will intend to mobilize to make this one fail.

Established in Irendille territory since the year 914 of the first era, the black fortress is the subject of incessant wars between the people of Irendille and the dark elves.
In the year 339 of the first era, the kingdom of Irendille experienced one of the saddest episodes in its long history. The great Queen Esaelle who reigned with King Irendille was struck by an unknown illness, something never seen in wood elf country. The illness took him away, plunging the king into insurmountable grief. The news of Esaelle's death reached the heart of the forests of Irendille, the news was terrible. The great immortal Queen Esaelle among the immortals was no more.
The king could not accept it, he summoned all the wise men of the kingdom. After days and nights of searching, a glimmer of hope appeared: an old treeman in the kingdom explained to Irendille that a very old story among his people spoke of a staff made from a treeman. The story explained that if the oldest tree-man in the kingdom agreed to sacrifice himself so that his heart could be made into a staff, we would have the most powerful healing object the central lands had known. The entire assembly of wise men fell silent and all thoughts went to Yresse the great red oak, dean of all the tree-men of the kingdom. The stories say that he knew the other world, the one before the great upheaval.
Irendille left the next day to meet the big red oak. He stayed four days in the forest and returned with the heart of the tree. The old tree man had spoken the truth, the power of the staff was immense, and Queen Esaelle was brought back to life. King Irendille gave the name of the large red oak to the staff: the staff of Yresse. He made the wish that the staff would never be the property of anyone but always in the service of the world. He entrusted it to Érillion who became its guardian and was given the mission to travel around the world. For more than six centuries, Érillion traveled the world with the staff of Yresse and put it in the service of people.
Rather than using his powers himself, Érillion travels the world in search of wise individuals and entrusts them with the staff to continue his mission. Thus, from century to century, the stick has experienced several lives and is at the center of legends in many cultures.
